On this annual National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, the ETE Dashboard Team is sharing a data spotlight on women in New York State and HIV.

In 2018, 21% of all new HIV diagnoses were to women. Black and Latinx women experienced the heaviest burden of new HIV diagnoses among women and accounted for a combined 83% of all new HIV diagnoses.

Young women accounted for 2% of new HIV diagnoses, and they also reported low rates of testing (only 15% of young women in New York high schools report ever being tested to HIV).

To explore these data further, visit our PrEP use, HIV Testing, and HIV Care Continuum – People Newly Diagnosed with HIV visualization pages. If you are interested in HIV/AIDS related health outcomes among women, make sure to use the Sex filter menu drop down feature located on each of our interactive dashboard pages.
